Collectors can be used to automatically pick up dropped items, similar to hoppers. Unlike hoppers, Collectors have an adjustable range (up to 6 blocks) and the ability to blacklist or whitelist items to control what it picks up.

When you place the Collector, an Item Frame will appear on one of the available (non-blocked) sides. If there are no sides available, you won't be able to place the Collector in that spot. The Arrow in the Item Frame is how you control the Collectors. The different controls are:
  • Right-click the Arrow with an empty hand to change the range, in blocks, that the collector will pick up items. This range is centered on the Item Frame, so a range of 6 will pick up all dropped items up to 6 blocks away from the Item Frame in every direction. You can also switch it to "Off" to disable the Collector.
  • Left-click the Arrow with an empty hand to view what items have been whitelisted or blacklisted.
  • Right-click the Arrow with an item in your hand to whitelist that item. If there's anything in the Collector's whitelist, it will only pick up those items and nothing else. Useful if you want the Collector to pick up only certain items.
  • Left-click the Arrow with an item in your hand to blacklist that item. Any items in the blacklist will not be picked up by the Collector. Useful if you want the Collector to pick up everything except certain items.
  • Sneak+right-click the Arrow with an item in your hand to remove that item from the whitelist.
  • Sneak+left-click the Arrow with an item in your hand to remove that item from the blacklist.
  • Sneak+right-click the Arrow with an empty hand to clear all items from the whitelist.
  • Sneak+left-click the Arrow with an empty hand to clear all items from the blacklist.
Unlike hoppers, which scan above them for dropped items, Collectors work the other way around, which is much easier for the server to calculate. When an item is dropped, the server looks for Collectors around that item that can pick it up and the first valid Collector it finds is the one that picks up the item. This means that, if you use an item transport system like a water chute to move the items into a Collector's range, it's possible the Collector won't pick it up. To help combat this, the scan for Collectors happens twice. The first time happens exactly half a second after the item is dropped so, if there's a valid Collector within range, the item will appear to be instantly picked up by it. The second time happens 4 1/2 seconds after the item is dropped if the item hasn't already been picked up. This means that, as long as your item transport system can deliver the item into a Collector's range within 4 1/2 seconds, it'll be picked up by the Collector.
